RCPS Press Report 24th September 2015

Our first evening of the new season is almost upon us when, on Monday 28th September, we welcome old and new members and guests to an evening that has the accent on the social and provides an opportunity for anyone to share a few pictures with everyone. The members’ lecturettes are a variation on the theme of ‘show and tell’! Bring along either two or three prints, or digital images on a memory stick, that you have taken over summer and spend a few minutes talking about what, why, where and how you came to take said images. It’s a great chance for anyone considering membership to come and chat with existing members, find out more about what we do and for you to tell us what you want from the Society so that we are best placed to shape a programme that meets the need of members. It is also the night when we find out whose image was top dog, namely ‘best in show,’ as voted for by visitors to the recent Annual Exhibition. Also one lucky winner from the 151 voters (66% of visitors to the exhibition), will be drawn out of the hat to receive a print of their choice. Just to make it more fun the premier ‘results’ of the exhibition will be available, that is the rankings of photographers and of images, again as voted for by visitors who completed a voting slip.

The format for the season is as before – we start promptly at 7.30pm but if you want to get an early cuppa be at The Arches, Holy Trinity Church, Kirkby Road, Ripon, HG4 2EY on Monday 28th September, (and Mondays thereafter) shortly before. After any notices, we will swing into action with the advertised programme. There is a mid-session refreshment/comfort break and we tend to finish between 9.30 and 10pm. The membership fee is £35 for adults, £10 for juniors and £3 for guests with refreshments at 50p. Guests paying £3 will have their guest fees credited to their membership fee when they take out membership. We shall be delighted to welcome familiar and new faces regardless of anyone’s understanding of or capability with a camera. Our unifying feature is that we blooming well love photography, we do – and we want to share that with as many others that want the same! Don’t be shy, come and try!

And now for something completely different, namely an invitation from the Yorkshire Region of the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) to take tea and have a chat about things photographic. They are holding another of their popular Café Sessions on Saturday 26th September at the Whitecloth Gallery, 24 Aire Street, Leeds LS1 4HT. The free session is from 10am to 12.30pm when there will a chance to meet with the Regional organiser of the RPS, other Yorkshire Committee members and any likeminded photographers. There’s no need to take any pictures along, as it is an informal gathering for both RPS members and non-members alike with the accent on socialising and discussing photography. You don’t have to book, just drop by, or you can contact Mary Crowther, e-mail photobox50@gmail.com
