RCPS Press Report 18th August 2016

A big thanks to all the members who have put in entries for our forthcoming Annual Exhibition to be held on 3rd September at the Allhallowgate Methodist Church Hall on Victoria Grove in Ripon. There have been a similar number of entries of prints and digital images as there were last year so it promises to be another great occasion. The exhibition will be fresh given that we were all asked to put in images that had not been on public display in any previous exhibition of ours. Exhibition posters are starting to appear in the city, numerous web-sites about Ripon, Harrogate or Yorkshire carry the exhibition details as do a number of regional newspaper websites. What is now needed is for members to encourage family, friends and work colleagues to come along, after all it is free!

Away from the Exhibition, members should be thinking which images they want to bring along to show on our first night back on Monday, 26th September. Apart from the usual rush to join and time to chat to get to know each other either again or, in the case of new folk, for the first time, there is an opportunity for members to show up to three images from their summer. They can be prints, digital projected images or a combination and on any subject you like so long as it is decent and legal! You will have the opportunity to say a few words to accompany the images. Quickly following, on 3rd October, is the closing date for our first competition, entitled ‘Humour’. The rules state that ‘This category includes any image which is meant to bring a smile to the viewer. The humour should preferably be contained within the image itself, but in some cases may become apparent when viewed with knowledge of the title. Images may be relatively unmodified or may fit in the altered reality category. Images consisting of a photograph of text only are unlikely to do well in this competition’.

If members have any suggestions for future speakers or for themes, subjects or practical sessions that they would like to see in the 2017-18 season, now is the time to be passing on your information or requests to members of the committee, especially since at our next meeting on Monday, 5th September, we shall be starting to think about the 2017-18 programme. You can contact any committee member or e mail, Bill Swan, our secretary.
