RCPS Press Report 8th September 2016

I’m indebted to member, Michael Bell, for telling me about his latest success in getting (another) one of his pictures published. Michael is a keen walker and photographer and has been a subscriber to ‘The Great Outdoors’ magazine from their first edition to date, a period spanning twenty-five years! (I wonder if he has kept every copy – must ask?). He says that in recent times the magazine have invited readers to send in photographs on a theme chosen by the editor, some of which are then published in the magazine. Michael’s picture of ‘Sunset at Coniston Water’ so impressed the editor that it was chosen to be included in the theme entitled ‘Dusk,’ which was featured in the September issue of the magazine. Congratulations to Michael and thanks for sharing this success as it inspires others to try their hand as well.

Just a reminder about the autumn competitions, the first of which is entitled ‘Humour,’ which I find the closer the closing date gets the less funny it is trying to find entries that are suitable! And I am not joking, but the closing date is Monday 3rd October, which is our second meeting night, so if you have not yet got your up to three prints and up to three digital images chosen you have not much time left!  Competition 2, which by popular demand replicates one we had last season, is ‘Altered Reality’ which has a closing date for entries of 24th October.  Competition 3, ‘Landscape,’ has a closing date of 14th November and Competition 4, British Natural History, a closing date of 5th December.

For our first night back on September 26th we have a social gathering, the chance to take out or renew membership or to just come as a guest (£3). Members are invited to bring along three favourite images of the summer either in mounted print format or in digital projected image format on a memory stick, and to say a few words about each. It would also be great if previous members could bring along a potential new member, although unfortunately we have no plans to offer membership at ‘two for the price of one!’
