RCPS Press Report 18th May 2017

Ripon City Photographic Society

Saturday 6th May saw a strong Ripon City Photographic Society (RCPS) presence at the Allhallowgate Methodist Church Community Day, the event enabled the groups and users of the Methodist Church space to meet each other, as well as being open for the public to drop in and to find out what goes on. The aim to promote and encourage increased participation in these groups, along with highlighting the need for raising funds in order to undertake the repair work for the lintels and sills in the Chapel.

There were three screens showing digital images from our previous RCPS annual exhibition, which received many positive comments on the variety and quality of the images being shown and this also encouraged folk to put the date of this year’s exhibition into their diary, Saturday 2nd September to be held at the Allhallowgate Methodist Church.

Derek Hodson, front man of the RCPS Exhibition subcommittee, commented: ‘As a result of the day, we have been able to interest a number of people in the work of the Society and hope that some or all of them may join us in September. A number of people took away information about the Exhibition, the summer programme, the Saturday Morning Pictures events and also our programme of meetings for the coming winter months.’

The Yorkshire Photographic Union (YPU) Annual Exhibition opened on Saturday 13th May, with two of our members receiving awards at the Assembly which was held last Saturday in Huddersfield Town Hall – results to follow, as at the time of writing we do not know which awards they received. The YPU exhibition of all the images will be in Huddersfield Art Gallery from the 13th May to 2nd September 2017 so plenty of time to plan a trip. It really is an excellent opportunity to see a range of exceptional Yorkshire photographer’s work and to discover what is trending and currently catching the judge’s eye!
