RCPS Press Report 10th August 2017

We have really been spoilt for photographic opportunities in recent weeks with Masham Steam Rally, the races, events at Newby Hall and Ripon Classic Cars. For those of you enjoyed Masham Steam Rally and can’t wait for next year and for those of you who feel you missed out – the Hunton Steam Gathering could be the answer! Held on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September with steam engines, vintage agricultural and commercial vehicles and much more and on the Sunday there is also a ploughing match. Hunton is between Bedale and Leyburn, so still nice and local, and full of great photographic possibilities. More information can be found on their website. Then there was the 1940’s weekend at Pateley Bridge, this was an excellent occasion for capturing some great portrait images, as well as the general feel of the times. So if you missed this or just want capture more images, you have plenty of time to plan because in October you can head to Pickering and the North York Moors Railway. Over the course of the weekend they capture the spirit of World War Two throughout Pickering and along the line; there is a full programme of entertainment and events in Pickering as well as at the stations, the re-enactors and visitors in vintage clothing all help to recreate an authentic feel of the time. More details can be found on the North York Moors website. If you want to get a flavour of these recent events and be inspired then head to our Facebook page where we have a selection of our members images. Then again if you want to refresh your astrophotography skills the Perseid Meteor shower could be your ideal event, it occurs every year between 17th July and 24th August, this year the shower is forecast to peak on the 12th August around midnight, cloud cover permitting. However, it is also a little double edged because if it is clear the moon will be rather bright and may make seeing them harder! There is plenty of information on the internet if you wish to find out more. Even if you don’t get your camera out, hope you get a good view of the Perseids.
